Workshop: Solar Energy potential in urban areas

The Future Energy Hub and the City and Regional Planning research groups at UiS will present their research activities in the solar energy field and discuss its unrealized potential with a particular focus on building integrated PV.

Project leader of future Energy Hub at UiS  and chief scientist at NORCE. Involved into regional, national and international projects and activities on the integration of energy systems across different vectors and their optimisation. He is also coordinating the subprogram “Technology” of the EERA Joint Program “Energy Systems Integration”. Within the European Turbine Network (ETN), he is member of the Project Board.

He graduated at the RWTH in Aachen (Germany) and has more than 30 years of experience in R&D of power plant technology and energy systems in Switzerland and Norway, as a researcher, project manager and manager of research programs.

Research fellow in the Regional and City Planning Group at the University of Stavanger. With an electric power engineering and management background, he is working now on energy in urban areas and his focus is on solar energy (building-integrated photovoltaics system) potential in urban areas. He is also a member of Smart City Research Network of UiS and Future Energy Hub.

Professor Harald N. Røstvik, Faculty of Science and Technology, Institute of Safety, Economics and Planning (ISØP), University of Stavanger. He is group leader at Urban planning specializing in sustainability and renewable energy. Through decades of practice and teaching, including ten years as professor at the School of Architecture in Bergen, his extensive international network has led to a range of international research projects, very many of which within the field of solar energy. He has designed solar vehicles, solar buildings, villages and solar university campuses. He is an architect educated at University of Manchester, England.
